After founding and coaching the SUNY NP Equestrian Team for 20+ years, LCS is sad to say that we will no longer be coaching this wonderful team. We wish our riders the best of luck in their college riding careers!

SUNY 2018

Lucky C Stables is home to the SUNY New Paltz Equestrian Team.  Over 20 years ago, Susan and Gary Clark started the SUNY New Paltz Equestrian Team.  They began with just 2 riders and they've now grown to over 25.  SUNY NP competes with Intercollegiate Horse Show Association recognized schools with several other colleges in the New York/ New Jersey area.  While NPET has been a club sport for its entire existance, it officially became a varsity sport funded by the university in 2018! Lucky C is conveniently located about 7 miles from campus.  We have 14 lesson horses that are used for two required weekly lessons and our team practice held on Thursday nights. Lucky C also offers opportunties for students to show and lease our fantastic horses for outside horse shows!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to try out to be on the team?

Yes, tryouts are held at the beginning of each semester. It is more of a placement test we accept riders of all abilities. Join anytime during the semester. Just come to a meeting!

Do I need previous riding or experience?

No. We will teach you about grooming and tacking, and you can take a riding lesson at any level. Once you are comfortable with riding and our coach thinks you are ready, you can also show (compete) with us at any level.

Do I need my own horse?

No. For lessons, we ride the school horses at Lucky C. At the shows, we ride the horses where the show is being held.

What is the IHSA?

The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association is the organization that sponsors our shows. It is made up of colleges around the country divided into various zones and regions depending on location.

How many shows are there in a year?

As a team, we compete in about 7-10 shows a year.

What if I don't want to compete?

You can still take lessons and participate in other activities with the club. However, we do encourage you to show your support and attend a few shows.
