Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to try out to be on the team?
Yes, tryouts are held at the beginning of each semester. It is more of a placement test we accept riders of all abilities. Join anytime during the semester. Just come to a meeting!

How much do lessons cost?
$50 for an hour group or half hour private lesson. There are alsosemester lesson packages available.

Do I need previous riding or experience?
No. We will teach you about grooming and tacking, and you can take a riding lesson at any level. Once you are comfortable with riding and our coach thinks you are ready, you can also show (compete) with us at any level.

Do I need my own horse?
No. For lessons, we ride the school horses at Lucky C. At the shows, we ride the horses where the show is being held.

What kind of attire dow I need?
For lessons, if you don;t have riding britches, you can wear jeans or leggings. You must have a boot/show with a definite heal. The barn can provide you with a hunt cap (helmet) if you don't own your own. For shows, you do need the full show attire, although some things like gloves, can be shared.

What is the IHSA?
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association is the organization that sponsors our shows. It is made up of colleges around the country divided into various zones and regions depending on location.

How much do shows cost?
There is a $25 fee per class to compete in the IHSA. However, you can only participate in a maximum of two classes per show, so the most you would have to pay is $50 per show.

How many shows are there in a year?
As a team, we compete in about 10 shows a year.

What if I don't want to compete?
You can still take lessons and participate in other activities with the club. However, we do encourage you to show your support and attend a few shows.
