4H at Lucky C

Parents ask themselves: where will my child be in 2 years? in 5? or 10? Caring for a horse builds character, teaches responsibility, and promotes physical fitness. Learning to ride means learning the rewards of hard work, and understanding how fun and pure joy can be won with dedication and effort. Caring for a horse is to join in an ancient art, and learn timeless values of cooperation, consideration, observation, and self-discipline.

Where will they be? Succeeding at life, because they learned to ride.

Lucky C is home to the local 4-H equestrian club, Equestrians Unlimited. We meet once a month for a few hours of learning and fun.  We also have the opportunity to go on a few field trips throughout the year.  Through 4-H kids have an opportunity to compete in various 4-H recognized events which develop the learning of each individual.  These events include:

-State Fair Horse Show: Primarily because Lucky C is a riding and show facility, we are extremely involved with this area of the 4-H program.  Each year our club members compete at the Ulster County Fair horse show where about 6-8 riders qualify for the New York State Fair Horse Show held in Syracuse, NY.  This horse show is a very prestigious horse show in the eyes of many youngsters within the barn.  Over the years Lucky C has come home with numerous state championships.

- Horse Bowl: This is basically trivia, Jeopardy for horses! There are certain levels (Novice, Junior & Senior) which each member is placed according to experience and/or age.  As a county, the team practices by studying horse knowledge then brings it all together to compete against other counties.  There are opportunities as a team and individual to qualify for state and national levels!
