Stay tuned for our summer 2012 camp dates!!! Are you or your child not sure what to do this summer?! We have your answer!! Summer camp at Lucky C is a great opportunity for children to learn all aspects of horses. They will have a fun-filled day including riding lessons, barn work, horse care and stable management. Kids will learn to love and appreciate this great animal. Our summer camps are heavily staffed for your child’s safety and learning ability. There is typically one counselor for every three children, plus two instructors. Safety is our greatest concern. We also have a fabulous equine staff of well-schooled lesson horses. We have 14 horses of all sizes, ages, colors and abilities to maximize your child’s potential. Lucky C has an indoor and outdoor arena, as well as a viewing room for break and lunch time. Stay tuned for Summer 2012 camp information. Frequently Asked Questions: How much does camp cost? The cost of full day camp is $500 for current customers and $550 for new customers, which includes an introductory lesson. The cost of half day camp is $300 for current customers and $350 for new customer, which also includes an introductory lesson. A non-refundable $100 deposit is required to hold your reservation for the camp. The remainder is due the first day of camp. What is the difference between half and full day? For your convenience we offer three separate sessions of camp. We recommend the full day so you child can ride twice and have more time with the horses. Aside from a full day session which runs from 9:00am-3:30pm we have two half day sessions. The morning session is from 9:00am-12:00pm while the afternoon session goes from 12:30pm-3:30pm daily. **Friday equals a pizza party so regardless of the camp time you choose, every child will have the opportunity to join in this fun end-of-the-week celebration! Describe a typical day at camp. The first thing that occurs are introductions so even if your child doesn't know anyone, they will have an opportunity to learn everyone's names before the day even begins. Everyone is then broken up into small groups to encourage interaction with one another. While one group gets their lessons (beginner camps tend to get private lessons to ensure individualized attention!) another group will learn how to clean a horse’s stall. It is very important that kids realize what kind of work goes into the horse they're riding. The third aspect of the morning is learning about something horse related whether it is how to clean the equipment they're using, equine first aid or information about the food the horse eats, the kids have great opportunities to learn from a very experienced and knowledgeable staff. During this time there is usually a snack break and of course endless drink breaks. After lunch time, the afternoon section consists of another lesson. Typically groups will join to play a functional game that quizzes the children on what they've learned that day. Kids may also have fun activities like a "Build Your Own Barn" Exercise or horse trivia relay races outside. What should my child wear? For safety reasons we ask that children come dressed with long pants and some sort of riding or work boot with some grip to it. Shorts and sneakers are not permitted during the time camp is in session. They may also bring their own helmet but no worries because Lucky C has quite a variety of sizes and shapes you may borrow if you don't have your own. We also have all the appropriate equipment for each horse including a saddle although you may bring your own if you'd like. What will my child need throughout the day? Typically every child goes through a lot of drinks especially after riding. We have a comfortable viewing room with chairs, tables and couches where the kids can leave their things all day while they're out in the barn. We also have a soda machine which includes everything from water to powerade to soda as well as a snack machine including chips, popcorn and of course candy so you may wish to send them with some change (candy machine only accepts coins). If your child is staying for half a day, we would suggest they come with a snack as well. If they're staying full day, we recommend they come with plenty to drink, snacks and lunch as we take a lunch break during the camper change over time around 12pm.
